Student Artwork is created through our after school programs and in conjunction with other organizations.

  • Day of the Dead
    CARECEN'S Wings, Roots & Hope, an academic program for 2nd to 8th grade students, celebrated the Day of the Dead with a candle lit procession around the block and the creation of a traditional Day of the Dead altar. The students' exploration of this cultural tradition included the creation of the artwork you see here.

  • DREAM Act
    From Dec. 2010 - Feb. 2010 the CARECEN ACT center collaborated with Miguel Contreras HS. (ALC) to create art work inspired by the youth led movement around the DREAM Act. Students from ALC created an original mural and video under the guidance of CARECEN's ACT coordinators.

  • Loteria Cards

    Lilia Ramirez and youth mentor Rocio Veliz led the project to create Loteria Lanterns. The images shared the stories of people's response to the increasing economic challenges of the times.

  • Central Americans in Los Angeles
    Dolores Chavez partnered with CARECEN to organize a story summit and to record the stories of Central American Immigrants through audio, video, and drawings. Under the guidance of artist Raul Batazar and youth mentors Rocio Veliz and Arturo Zepeda the youth created portable murals to share the experiences of Central American Immigrants in Los Angeles.
